Sorry that's a bloody awful pun, even for me.
Just a quick recommendation to get your arses onto iPlayer and watch "The cost of free"; a real eye-opening documentary.
It looks into how the internet (and Google in particular) record everything and trades off your information enabling them to offer us free internet services.
The programme contains contributions from Bill Gates, Apple's Steve Wozniak and Steven Fry (all the main ones) and is full of theories about the long term effects of the digital fingerprints we leave. It's old news and I've moaned like an old lady about this before...but...
The shots of Googles beyond-massive warehouses storing shitloads of data about our searches are proper mental. A good factoid in there was that in 1995 Google were making $200 per second!
Another valid point was made about the way we present ourselves on the net. A few years back people used to showcase themselves through highly individual web pages, but this has been replaced en masse by the rigid structures of Facebook, MySpace, Twitter (and Blogger I suppose), making us all define ourselves in the same way.
Clicky here for a watch. Tis well good.
