The Darke side. April installment.

I relentlessly poked Darkey for another Saatchi story until he surrendered, went all misty eyed, then recalled this infamous advertising tale...

The agency were on a ridiculously important pitch for a large chunk of the BT business.
The presentation team had done their thing; going flat out for 90 minutes showcasing the strategic approach and creative work. But halfway through it was clear all wasn't well. The clients, and one in particular, were stoney faced and displaying very negative body language.
The pitch culminated BT thanked them for their efforts and both parties left on good terms. Unfortunately David Kershaw (then Saatchi big dog, subsequent co-founder of M&C) managed to leave his notes behind, one of which was a message to another member of the pitch team, which read:
"THE CUNT IN THE GLASSES LOOKS LIKE TROUBLE"
Amazing!

Needless to say the pitch wasn't successful, but it was only when Marketing Week reported the entire story that anyone realised Kershaw had left the note behind.

BT took the gaffe in good spirit though, and invited Saatchis back to pitch for another part of their business. Upon arriving to the meeting, Kershaw and the pitch team were greeted by a room full of clients wearing over sized specs bought from a joke shop.
Good form BT, good form.
